How to create a picture slideshow?

Picture slideshows are pictures that change at regular intervals. For example, a setup such that a picture window is displaying a collection of photos from a folder on your computer, or from an on-line photo album is here referred to as a slideshow. Here's how to create a slideshow:

  1. The quickest and easiest way is to drag-and-drop a folder containing pictures. A local channel will be immediately set up and pictures rotated at a regular interval (1 minute by default)

  2. ... or use Add New option under slideshows button.

The two methods are rather the same except one lets you turn existing pictures into channels, without introducing new images into the layout. Either way, you will be asked to choose a channel type. There are two types of channels: Local and Web based.

Local slideshows are strictly local to your computer. They never access the internet in any way. They are solely to change your wallpaper using the pictures and photos found on your computer only.

Web slideshows can display local photos (just like local channels) plus they can display images found in on-line photo albums and webcams (or similar image feeds). MyBetterDesktop.com maintains a large on-line library of publically available photo albums and image feeds categorized by topic.

You will be asked to name this channel and to decide how frequently you want to see a new/updated image. The name can be anything which will make it easier for you to recognize this channel at a later time.

If this had been a Web channel, you'd also be asked to provide your username and a password so you can access your personal albums in your locker (at MyBetterDesktop.com).

What is the channel going to show? The final step of creating a channel is adding the content. If the channel is a local channel simply drag and drop pictures or folders containing pictures onto the form.

If you chose to create a web channel then you will be given an option to choose if you want display photos from your own personal on-line albums, publically shared on-line albums, or photos from a image stream, i.e. a webcam - or any combination of the above. Web channels can contain multiple sources.

When done, press Create Channel button.

For your convenience www.MyBetterDesktop.com web site maintains a directory of public albums and webcams, which can be browsed and selected straight from the application.
